Our aim is to produce sheep which:

  • Have good constitution and conformation

  • Are early maturing and large framed

  • Are highly fertile with open faces

  • Thrive in our ‘high rainfall’ environment.

Nareeb Nareeb Breeding Objective and Index

The Nareeb Nareeb breeding objective index places approximately equal emphasis on increasing clean fleece weight and reducing fibre diameter.

Both traits are simultaneously making large improvements.

Emphasis is also given to ‘style’ - fibre diameter variation (Standard Deviation), staple strength, and comfort factor, which affect spinning performance. In fact, our wool measurements fall well within desirable limits for these traits.

The predicted gains shown below allow for 35% of overall selection emphasis to be used to improve or maintain the standard of conformation and other wool quality traits not included in the index.

NAREEB NAREEB BREEDING OBJECTIVE

The Dual Purpose 7% Micron Premium Index is used along with traditional classing methods. We aim to increase fleece, body growth and reproduction rates, while also reducing micron. The important profit drivers of wool are fleece weight and fibre diameter. Both traits are simultaneously making large improvements as seen above.

Emphasis is also given to “Style”, fibre diameter variation (Standard Deviation), staple strength, and comfort factor which, affect spinning performance so that these are maintained or slightly improved. In fact our wool measurements fall well within desirable limits for these traits.
